Modernizing Argentina's Digital Identity Infrastructure with Avalanche

AutoPen: Blockchain-powered digital signatures for LatAm, built on Avalanche

Recent regulatory changes in Argentina (Decree 743/2024) have opened new possibilities for digital signatures by enabling remote identity verification. At Lucero Labs, we're building AutoPen - a next-generation PKI infrastructure powered by Avalanche blockchain that's transforming how digital signatures work in LatAm.

The Challenge

Despite having digital signature legislation since 2001, Argentina has struggled with adoption due to in-person verification requirements and complex certificate management. The traditional PKI infrastructure, while secure, has become a barrier to widespread digital signature adoption.

Our Solution: AutoPen

We're reimagining digital signatures by combining:

  • Remote biometric verification through RENAPER (Argentina's National Registry)
  • Public keys stored on Avalanche C-Chain
  • Private keys secured in device enclave
  • Smart contracts for certificate lifecycle management

Why Avalanche?

We chose Avalanche for its:

  1. Sub-second finality - crucial for real-time signature verification
  2. Predictable gas fees - enabling scalable certificate operations
  3. L1 capability - future regulatory-specific implementations
  4. Enterprise readiness - production-grade infrastructure

Impact & Future

AutoPen enables:

  • Remote document signing with legal validity
  • Automated compliance for regulated industries
  • Cross-border identity verification potential
  • Enterprise-grade signature management

We're currently in beta with select partners in Argentina, with plans to expand across Latin America. Looking for collaborators interested in building the future of digital identity infrastructure.
